Sursum Ascende Tutorials is a private classical educational service based in Temecula, CA and geared towards instructing homeschool high school students in classical language and humanities courses. All courses are instructed by Cosette Gaukler (BA, Classical Liberal Arts) who is a Latin Fellow at Ancient Language Institute and is passionate about Medieval study.

High School Latin I is for completely new Latin learners. The course covers the first half of Picta Dicta Latin Grammar 3 alongside the accompanying reader “Gesta Egberti.” This course utilizes “natural method” which means classes will be conducted in Latin as much as possible and translation into English is limited.

Class is split into two 45min sessions. The first session will cover new grammar and vocab and help students build familiarity with sentence building. The second session will cover the reading and will be discussion based, expecting students to engage with the story in Latin.

This hybrid history and literature course is intended for upper level high school students. This course is one semester long and covers from Bede to King Alfred to the Benedictine Reform to William the Conquerer. It will delve into historical and literary texts in order to understand the philosophical, religious, and political ebbs and flows of the Anglo-Saxon period of England.
